yak, cashmere & merino - warmth, woven by hand

At khoj vrångö, our yak, cashmere and merino shawls are all handwoven in Nepal — made with care, designed to last, and warm in every sense of the word.

they are woven in collaboration with Friendly Export, a small studio committed to sustaining artisan craft and traditional skills.

from the same supplier we also have cashmere beanies, made by using handriven knitting machines resulting in the softest beanies your ever tried on.

yak – warmth from the roof of the world

our yak shawls are made from the wool of himalayan yaks - animals that have evolved over millennia to survive some of the coldest, harshest conditions on earth. that resilience lives in every fibre.

100% yak, no blends - handwoven in nepal by friendly export, the same small studio behind our cashmere and merino pieces. the shawls are completely undyed, in the natural colour of the animal itself - deep and warm, earthy and grounding.

yak wool sits close to cashmere in fineness - 16 to 20 microns - yet has its own distinct character: warmer than merino, soft enough to wear next to skin, and still almost entirely unknown in europe.

why yak is special
-exceptionally warm, warmer than merino
- soft and non-itchy, fine enough to wear next to skin
- thermoregulating and breathable
- naturally moisture-wicking
- completely undyed, in its natural colour
- rare and 100% natural

cashmere – light as a cloud

our cashmere shawls are made from the fine undercoat of Himalayan goats — sourced from Nepal and Mongolia. The fibres are known for their extraordinary softness, warmth, and lightness.

every piece is handwoven in Nepal, using yarn so fine that only two shawls can be woven per day. to weave cashmere as thin as our shawls, the thread is lightly coated with a natural, plant-based glue during weaving and gently washed away once the shawl is finished.

some shawls are naturally dyed in soft, earthy tones. others are multicoloured and dyed with conventional methods. Each one is light as a whisper — but full of quiet luxury.

cashmere is a timeless fibre, cherished for centuries for its beauty and feel.

why cashmere is special
- thermoregulating - warm without overheating
- soft and non-itchy - gentle even on sensitive skin
-moisture-wicking and breathable
- 100% natural and biodegradable

merino – warmth with heart

Our Merino shawls are handwoven in Nepal from the wool of Merino sheep — a breed known for producing some of the softest, most breathable wool in the world. The wool used in our shawls belongs to the ultrafine class: 17.5 microns or less.

Merino shawls are woven using the same technique as our cashmere shawls, where a light, plant-based glue supports the fine thread during weaving and is washed away after.

Some shawls are undyed, in natural tones of grey and brown. Others are dyed in classic shades using standard (non-natural) dyes. All are crafted with care, to last.
